I stopped going here, even though it's one of my favorite spots, after I heard about the explosion that injured a few of his kitchen workers due to his failure to do maintenance on his gas cooking appliances for several years. Gas code requires maintenance every 6 months. His initial reaction upon hearing the news? No concern for his employees who suffered 3rd degree burns, or even his customers, his first reaction was how much is this going to cost me. This guy is a well known scumbag with enemies all over town. Known many of his employees, they all say the same thing. He's a cheapskate penny pinching dirtbag. Good riddance. Hopefully the new owners won't be dirtbags who make their low wage workers work in life threatening conditions like cooking equipment that's essentially a ticking time bomb. And he changed the best nachos in the city! They were so good! Screw you Victor.

Here's the thing though, OP, and I know many may not agree or see it this way, but at least you know what kind of people run this bar. If those people were forced to hide their bigotry, we'd be unknowingly supporting said bigotry.

I'm all for a rail system. Halifax is very suburban, unless you're a student or a in the top tier of earners, you likely don't live on the peninsula. The people who have money are not coming into the city to spend it because it's a pain in the ass what with parking and needing a sober driver. Make it easier for the people to come into the city and spend their money on local businesses instead of going to dartmouth crossing, larry uteck or bayers lake to eat and shop at at big box chains. We wonder why it's so hard to find a job, it's really difficult for working class people to support local companies. It would be a big step in the right direction.

I've said it before I'll say it again. The problem is that the public sector takes too much. How about asking them what they can do to make a change? Pretty hard when you're barely able to feed yourself and then get slapped with an $800 jaywalking ticket so that public sector workers can make 75k/year with full benefits and a pension. It can't just be our meager private sector, which is mostly service industry jobs, that has to go without. We're already going without. Our ruling class has to make sacrifices too, but they never will, so I'm leaving.

Moncton has a strong private sector, there's your answer. Everybody in NS either has a cushy government job with a pension and full benefits or lives pay check to a pay check to support those people. Too much government. If they really wanted to make positive change around here they'd be willing to tighten their belts like the rest of us are expected to. Maybe some day pigs will fly. Either get a vehicle or move, it will never change.
