Best Canadian Solo Male

Sam Roberts

Sam Robert’s win as best Canadian male artist should come as no surprise to Halifax show-goers. The Montreal native visits the city more than any other Canadian act—including ex-patriots Sloan and runner-up Buck 65—and always manages to pack whatever venue he plays. Roberts’ last appearance included two sold-out nights at The Marquee Club, and he’s also wowed crowds at The Palace. When he’s not performing, Roberts can be heard on the airwaves of almost every radio station in town. His penchant for writing surefire hits gives him lots of exposure on the dial, and the accompanying videos haven’t done too badly on MuchMusic either. If Roberts’ star keeps rising, he’ll outgrow the Halifax bar scene, so let’s cherish the small gigs we’ve witnessed and pray he visits when he’s filling arenas.

Runner-up: Buck 65
