Sure, the Mellotones are a cover band, but they’re a bit different. “We’re a cover band in the way that a jazz band playing standards is a cover band. You have to really understand and study the language of the music to create the authenticity that translates to the audience; it’s not painting by numbers,” they say. “What has always worked is picking tunes that we love and think are cool. By trying to be a little different and playing great songs that people might not have heard before, we’ve managed build a bit of a diverse following. It’s great to see a packed dance floor to songs by Bobby Bland, Little Milton or any of the other great artists you don’t really hear on the radio these days.” Catch them Thursdays at the Seahorse.
