Best Crafter

Gold Winner Marina Smith, Arcane Angel

Silver Winner Lily Lake Knits

Bronze Winner Isabelle Pineau, An Oddity Or Two

“It’s a threepeat, do I get to retire now?” jokes your favourite crafter, Marina Smith. “Am I in the Hall of Fame?” It’s too soon for Smith to be inducted, but she’s well on her way with this third straight victory. “I think that people keep voting for me because they appreciate my vision,” she says through a case of strep throat. Smith makes “composite art,” marrying metals, jewels and other materials to create works that are a little bit steampunk and a lot fantastical. You can catch her this year on the holiday show circuit at Have Yourself A Gothic Little Christmas (December 5 and 6) and The Last-Minute Christmas Craft Fair (December 12 and 13). “My vision is one of the fairy tale realm. With how difficult it is to live life in this modern era, I think a lot of people are being attracted to this deep sense of nostalgia,” she says. “When they see my work, regardless of what age they are, they relate to the images.”
