“Most of my clients have been with me for 12 to 15 years, and it’s kind of like dating,” says Heidi Rofe. “It’s like a long-term relationship—if it gets boring we all know what happens.” A master hairdresser and colourist, Rofe’s been giving dazzling ’dos in Halifax since 1994, working from her home salon, Beauty Starts Hair, for the last three years and winning top honours in this category for the last two. “I’m never bored of my job, I never have the same day,” she says. “I say to my clients, ‘You guys are my gold award every time you sit in my chair.’”
