Vinnie’s has been the underground pasta favourite for a long time, and this year it finally unseated the competition. Hidden in a residential area of the south end, you have to already know about Vinnie’s in order not to miss it. Come here for unpretentious and feel-good Italian classics. The enduring fan favourite is garlic chicken fettuccine, says chef and owner Gary Jackson, but it’s all good. Why? Because the pasta is fresh, and everything is made to order. “There are no sauce buckets here,” says Jackson. “We don’t make anything until the customer orders, then we throw it all together.”
