Gold Winner Public Gardens
Silver Winner Point Pleasant Park
Bronze Winner Halifax Common
We all know why we love the Public Gardens: great Victorian-era garden, wondrous wildlife, geese, bandstand, cafe, blah, blah, blah. Here’s what we don’t know: lore has it that Griffen Pond is named after Frederick Griffen, who was wrongly executed for a murder he did not commit...what the hell is all that about? “Whoops, sorry, we’ll name a pond after you.” The fact of the wrongful execution is all over the internet, but nothing beyond that: no particulars, no mention of who was killed or who the actual murderer was. This bothers us.
