The Aliant payphone on the corner of Oxford and Quinpool was removed during the revamping of the corner. Will it be put back? How will we phone Mom and cry after we get stood up at the movies? | City | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

The Aliant payphone on the corner of Oxford and Quinpool was removed during the revamping of the corner. Will it be put back? How will we phone Mom and cry after we get stood up at the movies?

Remarks: The city says it’s the responsibility of Public Works, who in turn says it’s Aliant’s, who then passes the buck back to the city. Payphones and their maintenance are, apparently, such touchy subjects that Aliant’s payphone department (1-888-248-2260) say “they have no business discussing this” with us. Well! Finally it’s confirmed the phone will be put back, as soon as the construction is finished. There’s a new building going up behind the Oxford theatre and they’re making the corner pretty in anticipation. But before beauty, function. And we prefer the convenience of the payphone.

Who's Responsible?: Doug Crossman, construction supervisor with the city’s Design and Construction Department for the West region. Phone 490-4846. Email [email protected]
