As a member of the Halifax Music Co-op, Wesley Smith approached fellow member and vocalist Julia Cunningham once he launched his electronic music project, Cabot, with electronic producer Brant Hunter, also known as Feels (a member of the Murmurs arts and music collective). "I knew I wanted to work with a female singer, so I reached out. We are influenced by Sufjan Stevens, Machinedrum and Stevie Nicks," says Smith. Last month, the trio released its first demo, "Come Down," a track that's vocally rich and multi-paced. It's a wavy voyage through soothing pitches and tones. In the song, we're told that Cabot has some "grand ideas," so what are they? "Playing a show on Theodore Tugboat and a sequel to Titanic," answers Smith. With new songs on the way and some local performances coming soon, you better take this chance to get on board.
