Duty and compassion. For Moosa, a young soldier in Abadan during the Iraq-Iran war, the two compulsions are at odds with each other. His assignment is to identify an enemy radar system, but he has also become somewhat responsible for a misfit band of civilians damaged by the war. Can he do his duty plus protect a mother and daughter who live in fear, a priest whose belief in God has made him fearless and an older man who refuses to relinquish the past? The staging is pure magic. Projections on a myriad of surfaces set the scene. Props are transformed into multiple items. Dozens of invisible cats “appear” on stage. The story is told through English, Farsi and unverbalized communication, as well as through the music that underscores and punctuates the action. Watch this play through empathetic eyes, and it all becomes crystal clear. Brilliant. Breathtaking. Heartbreaking.
