A dream team of comic actors has assembled at Chester Playhouse and is starring in a new work by Bryden Macdonald. Christian Murray, Joanne Miller, Brian Heighton and Samantha Wilson simply light up the stage in MacDonald's Odd Ducks. It's the story of Ambrose, a self-absorbed, small-town lothario who is honest with everyone but himself. Murray goes to town as the oily Ambrose who delivers his pronouncements with evangelical flair. Miller is wonderfully quirky and charming as his shallow jilted lover. The dryly funny Heighton is the perfect counter balance to the over-the-top Ambrose and Wilson delivers a superbly grounded and naturalistic performance as a housekeeper whose prickly exterior belies a loving heart. The dialogue is snappy, the laughs are frequent and the performances are first-rate, making this well worth a fall outing to Chester.
To Sep 29, Chester Playhouse, 22 Pleasamt Street, 8pm (and 2pm on Saturdays), $26/$22, 275-3933
