Remarks: We called the HDBC (463-2800), and were give the exact spelling: Macdonald, small “dee.” When we mention the conflicting signs, the pat answer of “That’s the city for you” made sense. Until we checked the HDBC website. Who, after all, is the city getting the information from? We spoke to HRM spokesperson John O’Brien. He tells us the signs will be fixed, and, touchingly, “everybody makes mistakes.” Well, that’s true. And now we feel rotten for bringing it up. Sort of.
Who's Responsible?: The city’s Transportation and Public Works office, specifically Andrew Bourgeois in the sign workshop. But for the general spelling confusion we’ve gotta blame the Halifax Dartmouth Bridge Commission. On its website (hdbc.ns.ca) there are two different spellings for the old bridge.
