Halifamous Foodies: Peter Kelly

In anticipation of the opening of the Seaport Farmers’ Market, we asked prominent Haligonians about the grub that gets their mouths watering.

Peter Kelly (Mayor)
Like most people, I love to eat fresh local produce whenever possible but, unfortunately, I don’t have a patch of soil to grow my own. Happily, my father doesn’t live too far away and he has a large garden, which I “raid” frequently. He grows everything, from strawberries and raspberries to cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes and potatoes.

According to my staff, I make a mean fish cake (salt cod and crab) and my homemade chicken soup also seems to go down well. I enjoy a plate of hodgepodge, most seafood dishes and, as a nice picnic treat on a warm summer’s day, an order of KFC and a cold beer!
