Hop falls flat

Easter bunny movie lacks bounce

Hop, directed by Tim Hill (Alvin And the Chipmunks), is about a friendship between the digitally animated Easter Bunny-in-waiting, EB (Russell Brand), and the unemployed and whiny Fred O’Hare (James Marsden). When EB runs away to Hollywood to become a drummer, a trio of ninja bunnies is dispatched to retrieve him while an overgrown evil chick (Hank Azaria) plans a coup d’état of the bunny throne. A David Hasselhoff cameo is a strange addition to the mish-mash of live-action and animated worlds and Marsden overacts to compensate for sharing the screen with a rabbit, culminating in a cringe-worthy rendition of “I Want Candy.” Hop has a few mildly funny moments---mediocre puns on the Easter theme and slapstick tumbles--- but falls short of being consistently entertaining.

Hop is not showing in any theaters in the area.
