The Coast is turning into a regular 'victim of the week' rag. A few weeks ago it was someone else's fault the squeegee kids couldn't work like the rest of us, and now it's that the bridge commission is to blame for jumpers. So I guess Lawtons is to blame for OD's and General Motors is to blame for anyone who offs themselves with a hose from a tailpipe of a Chevy. These poor folks are troubled and it is tragic that they are tossing away their lives; they should go visit the terminally ill young people at the QE2 to get some perspective on the value of life. The trainwreck that suicides leaves behind makes me feel very little sympathy for someone who takes their own life. As for the problem of suicides, it was around long before the harbour bridges were built and unfortunately will be for a long time after. The next time you are driving across the MacDonald bridge, check out the fences. They might be a bit of a deterrent but people will always find a way. Shit, if someone wants to go, they can jump into traffic off the fFairview overpass. Who's fault is that, Peter Kelly's? Give me a break.
