If intricate, ethereal folk music sung in a soulful, husky voice is your thing, look no further than Toronto-based Tamara Lindeman, aka The Weather Station. She's a Pop Explosion veteran, having played the fest in previous years both as The Weather Station, an act she formed in 2006, and with bands The Bruce Peninsula and Entire Cities.
Originally planning to do a fall tour of the east coast, this show will end up being Lindeman's only stop before heading to the UK to launch a European tour in November. "I really like Halifax," she says. "I wanted to come to Halifax specifically."
Lindeman has also performed in Halifax as The Weather Station with a couple of In the Dead of Winter stints and a tour with Timber Timbre—with the Company House ("a great place to play") as her usual venue. This time around she'll be gracing the stage at St. Matthew's Church.
"The show will be really wicked," she says. "I'm playing with Nap Eyes, who I really like, and Andy Shauf—they're pals and we've toured together." And though she's never performed or seen a show at St. Matthew's, she's "really excited" about the venue. "It's beautiful."
Unlike her solo CoHo shows, Lindeman will be playing St. Matthew's with a full band.
And if you miss her on Friday night, you can probably catch her in the audience of the Pigeon Row/Headless Owl/You've Changed Records Showcase at Gus' Pub on Saturday. "It's going to be badass," she says.
