What is with the state of so-called “professional” journalism these days? Every time I tune in to a news report broadcast by one of the major television or radio stations, I’m subjected to some news writer’s ridiculous attempt to punch up a serious news story with a pun or some other form of word play. It’s inappropriate and irritating. In the case of stories dealing with death and/or violence, it’s downright offensive. Do they teach this schmaltz in journalism school? Show some class.

No more puns, please
