For a week every July, I feel am proud to witness all the progression our city makes to involve queer folks in the community. It seems, however, that this is the only time we Haligonians want to show our pride. Part of the reason our city is so damn closeted, and occasionally close-minded, is because of the lack of LGBTI events and awareness. These Pride activities need to occur regularly, become something mainstream, and something not to be ashamed of. Let’s start queer open mike nights, queer speed dating, queer dances, potlucks, groups, workshops... you name it. I didn’t come out until recently, and it’s not because I didn’t know. Let’s show some support, Halifax.
