Metro Transbitch

I’m sure you were all well aware of the storm that backed everything up for 2-3 hours last night (12/04/06). I got off work @ 8pm and made it home roughly 11pm. Thats an approx. 3 hour commute from Bayers Rd, to Scotia Square (I live behind Scotia Square

I’m sure you were all well aware of the storm that backed everything up for 2-3 hours last night (12/04/06). I got off work @ 8pm and made it home roughly 11pm. Thats an approx. 3 hour commute from Bayers Rd, to Scotia Square (I live behind Scotia Square).

I understand that everything was backed up for hours, we were all watching the traffic jams from our windows @ work. But when I got off @ 8pm, all the traffic jams had stopped and the snow had calmed drastically. I waited behind the village for 45 minutes for a bus until I decided to walk over to the superstore on Joe Howe in hopes of a better chance getting another bus.

I waited over there forever, while NINE Out of service buses passed the bus stop that I was on, along with 7 other people.

Now I understand that buses are backed up for quite sometime and everything is off schedule, but why aren’t there bus drivers on call? WHY didn’t they just get out of service buses to start a route in a random place and just start picking people up???? There is no such thing as on-call for metro transit? I pay for my bus pass every month, and I can deal with a little lateness here and there, its no big deal. But when NINE out of service buses pass me while I’m standing in the freezing cold, It really, really pisses me off.

I hear people say Halifax has the worst metro transit, those people obviously never lived in Newfoundland. So believe me when I say I’m not one to bitch about metro transit, I’m quite appreciative of it. But it goes to show you how unprepared this city is.

Lucky for me, there was a great guy driving bus 992 last night ( I noted the number inside the bus above the driver seat). One of the people waiting was as pissed as the rest of us and flagged down an out of service bus. This bus driver, let us all on, and brought us to the Halifax Shopping Centre Terminal where we would have a way better chance of catching a bus. Everyone was more thankful then I’ve ever seen. By this time it was about 10pm.

I just cant believe it took 9 buses to pass before someone would have the decency to actually stop to pick us up.

Metro transit needs to get their shit together.
