Just when I thought my contempt and disgust for Canadian politicians couldn't get any greater...most parties have agreed to debate the naming of Shane Doan captain of Team Canada during the World Hockey Championship in Russia. This is such a non-issue it is laughable.

Just as an intro, Mr. Doan was accused of making a "culturally insensitive comment" toward a referee who was French-Canadian. This was during an NHL game back in 2005. Mr. Doan denied the accusation, and the NHL dealt with it. Should have been end of story. Now, because he has been named captain of Team Canada, an MP from Quebec has demanded he be removed as captain and taken the argument to the House of Commons. Even Jack Layton has weighed in suggesting the decision for captaincy could have been better.

Do these clowns have nothing better to do? Aren’t there somewhat more important issues to debate, like, oh I don’t know, an ongoing war in Afghanistan, health care, environment, childcare, etc. Normally I regard these twits as no better than 4-year-olds squabbling over who’s got the better lunch but that’s an insult to 4-year-olds everywhere. Can someone please explain to me why our tax dollars are paying these morons’ salaries?
