Movies start on time. Hockey games start on time. Theatre starts on time. Even little kids' Christmas concerts get going within 15 or 20 minutes of the advertised start time So why the fuck do concert promoters and club owners think they can start things an hour or more after the advertised start time? Take Wilco for instance. The ticket said: gates open at 630. I showed up at 730 reasonably expecting the opening act would at least be taking to the stage, and feeling like I risked missing much of the opening act. But I find out the opening act isn't starting until at least 830, and Wilco "might" hit the stage by 1030. Possibly later. Hello!?! What about parents with babysitters? What about people who have better things to do than sit around swilling beer for 2 hours? And once you enter the gates, you can't leave and come back in. Do they really need 2 or 3 extra hours of captive beer sales to make the event profitable? This is a fuckin' scam, and it pissed me off when I was a musician and club owners tried to take advantage of my audience, and it pisses me off as a fan. My reaction: I scalped my ticket at a loss, and left. And it will be a cold fuckin' day in Hell-ifax when I buy another ticket to a concert in any venue.
