Since I am in such a horrible monday morning mood, I am goign to take out some bitching frustration on my homophobic experiences in Halifax... being post-pride week and all. I seriously think the coast should look into doing an article on how there is still a completly unacceptable level of homophobia in this backwards city.
Incident number 1: A year ago I rented a large apartment close to the DAL campus. I needed one roomate to join my friends and I who had decided to live together (two gay guys and one straight guy). Ass hat from Ontario farm country who was moving here to start the PHD program in clinical psychology at Dalhousie responds to my ad. He sent a friedn to look at the place as he wasnt in the city yet. He said everythign looked good. The day he arrived he paid me rent and damage deposit. Two days later he confronts me in the kitchen. He said I was a lying fraudster by trying to trick him into living with me. That he didn't know what kind of scam I was pulling but he can not live with a gay man. He had cancelled his rent cheque and deposit and the rent for the unit bounced in my name because his funds were no longer in the account. He had his thigns packed and moved out while I was at work. What bothers me most about this situation was that he is training to be a clinical psychologist. The kind of person who people like me would entrust to be impartial and unbiased when coming to them to help cope with lifes problems. Shame on you peice of white trash. I was so very tempted to write a letter to your program advisor and I still may as you have to meet a review panal before your license is issued. I am following you closely. Other friends suggested that I take you to small claims court as you had a legally binding lease with me and you broke the contract... and have the papers served to you by my 230LB security guard friend at the clinic where you told me you were doing some school related work. I was the bigger man and didn't ruin your career ... yet.
Incident number 2: My boyfriend and I were driving my motorcycle (yes, fags have motorcycles). Near Kearny Lake... a hick-truck with banjo music playing drives by and we hear "nice bike fags". You're lucky. You're lucky that I love my boyfriend enough not to drive like a luntick on my motorcycle to catch up with you guys. Otherwise I would have chased your filthy inbread asses down and asked you to say it to my face. Nice truck, sister-licking, children diddling assholes.
Incident Number 3: COPY+PASTE incident number two and find and replace kearny lake road with Spring Garden Road, and inbread hicks in a truck should be white trash losers waiting for the bus in front of macdonalds. Same comment. I saw the looks that other people gave you when you made the comments, they loked at you like you just shouted the N word ... I jsut wish there was someone walking by who had violent inclinations to take care of you and make you taste the previous nights mixture of puked up macdonalds and piss on the sidewalk.
My conclusions about this city: Its a hole. People here still live in 1975... economically, socially and politically. Acceptance is by chance. I am gay, but other than having a boyfriend I live a "socially accepted nova scotia lifestyle". I went to university and became poor to have a shitty salaried job here, I pay too much rent, I get drunk with my friends and go sit a t a pub to listen to some live music when funds permit. Yet, I am still mocked and looked down on. Imagine if every "fag" in this city went on strike one day... fuck pride week, stop working. Watch the banks shut down. Starbucks would be out of business. Almost every retail store, law firm, call centre and dentists office would shut down.
Anyone else have any interesting homophobe experiences here? Post as much detail as you can (of course keeping to the rules of the site re: identifying directly). I'd love to know what other people around here have had to deal with.
