If you want so much as a nickel from me beyond what I pay for food/drinks, you have to earn it. If you can't so much as offer me a hello and a smile I find it hard to hand you a nickel that was never handed to me. So don't growl at me because you expect a quarter every time you twist the top off of a beer bottle or pour a coffee or carry a sandwich from a window to my table and aren't getting a tip. It is not my privilege to come into this restaurant/bar, I am the customer. Nobody tips me at my daily job. I earn every cent I make. I do not wish to spend my time waiting while you finish your conversation with your friend. Nor do I want to see my food order sitting under a heat lamp while you are one the phone. I am the one keeping your business running, and your paycheck. I'm not here to make your life miserable, I'm just here to have something to eat or drink, pay for it, and leave. If you make me want to come back, you'll get your tip. So the next time I scoop up my quarter and put it back in my pocket you'll know why.
