Homophobia - alive and well in Halifax

We heard you behind us muttering under your breath about "fucking dykes". When I turned around and asked what your problem was, you said, "What you do in private is your own business, but other people shouldn't have to see it."

We were so shocked we couldn't respond. We were HOLDING HANDS, you dipshit! My partner and I don't engage in tasteless public displays of affection. We're at least as discreet as heterosexual couples are expected to be. Hand holding is as demonstrative as we get, not because we're ashamed of our relationship, but because it's not polite to grope each other in public. Too bad more straight folks didn't have better manners. But what really irks me is the fact that a couple of hot young straight girls playing faux-lesbian on the dance floor of some bar is far less offensive to the average homophobe than two ordinary adult women walking down the street holding hands.
