Independent Police Work

Posted on Mon, Apr 25, 2011 at 1:29 PM

I came home last week to discover that my tenant had left with my jewelry and our money. I immediately reported this to the Halifax Regional Police. I called back each day to see if anyone had been assigned to my case. Two days later I stopped an officer in his police van. I gave him my case file number, he looked it up, the case has been assigned. When I showed this officer (in the van) some of the info I had on the former tenant the officer asked if I had called him on his cell phone. I asked "Why? "So you could ask him where he is and if he has your things." Am I supposed to confront this individual?

The officer assigned to the case has not shown up for his scheduled shifts. If he doesn't show up tomorrow it will be 2 weeks since the theft and 9 days since it was reported.

Maybe I should confront the thief and hope he draws a knife on me. Would the Halifax Regional Police show up then? —LSL
