Citadel Bomb Blasts

Is it really necessary to fire off a friggin cannon every day at noon? I wouldn't mind if it was a little cannon but this thing is a full size war of 1812 cannon or something. When that thing goes off you can actually feel the shockwave. Last time I was walking around the Citadel and it went off at noon it actually set off a car alarm downtown somewhere, a really noisy one. When you're making such loud blasts that you're setting off car alarms, you know there's a problem. And what about old people with bad hearts? Is it really worth killing a person just to uphold a weird tradition? I despise the noon cannon and I despise whoever is responsible for letting the citadel fire a goddamn cannon every day in the middle of a major city. Maybe at the Dingle or somewhere, but in the middle of the city? Holy Christ Halifax is a dumb city. Actually, I sometimes can't tell whether I'm in Halifax or Beirut. There's a big clock right by the Citadel. A chime not enough, we need a bomb blast to let us know it's noon? That thing is exactly the same as a bomb. Very comforting to all of our Israeli tourists, I'm sure. —JJ
