So we've just given up on snow clearing?

Posted By on Mon, Mar 4, 2019 at 6:10 PM

Seriously. When a snowfall warning comes up on Environment Canada's forecast, common sense says "ready the plows!" Instead, today, as with most other snow days in the city, our not-so-trusty snow clearers don't take to the streets until there's already an inch or more of snow on the ground with little or no preemptive salting done beforehand. How hard is it to look on a website, see the little red banner that says "SNOWFALL WARNING!" in all caps, and call in the fleet to prepare? There's no excuse. Are you not being paid enough? Are all the plows having mechanical troubles? Do you not have access to the fucking weather forecast? Okay, fix that shit when it's NOT winter and you aren't expected to get off your ass and do your job. There shouldn't still be completely unplowed streets more than four hours after the snow starts sticking to the ground. Get your shit together.

Mug not welcomed

Posted By on Mon, Jan 28, 2019 at 5:19 PM

Tell me, this coffee establishment so dearly loved by Canadians: Why is it that when I bring a re-usable mug you fill your own cup to transfer to mine only to go ahead and throw it away? The whole reason I brought mine was to avoid yours going into the landfill! Honestly, if other coffee establishments don't have a problem with filling my mug up directly, why don't you? From now on I'm going to take my mug elsewhere and enjoy their coffee.

Cann abyss

Posted By on Mon, Oct 29, 2018 at 4:21 PM

Who do you gotta fuck to get some weed in this town? Where's all the pot? You ran out after one day of legalization? Can you get some more? You make it illigal to buy from anywhere else—and then you can't serve the masses. Get your shit together if you want to run a monopoly, greedy government! And what's with all the beurocracy and red tape? You have to sign up online first before going in to your stores? Why not just show your ID, like when you buy liquor? Why only designated stores and not all stores? This just causes huge line-ups!

Open letter to Trud'oh

Posted By on Tue, Sep 18, 2018 at 12:17 PM

What do you think you are doing? Canada's GDP is smaller than California's GDP. Do you really think you should be playing hardball with Trump? If you fuck this up—and cost me my job—not only will I refuse to vote for you, but I promise to never vote Liberal again.

How come Canada gets to be so cool?

Posted on Wed, Oct 5, 2016 at 4:00 AM

Greetings. I am an American - you know, that country due south that acts as a buffer between y'all and Mexico. I have been obsessed with Canada since the early 80's when my hometown Flyer's battled those pesky Edmonton Oilers. For some reason a fascination developed, which was further compounded when I started reading Gordon Korman books - oh those crazy kids at Macdonald Hall...and those loose girls over at Scrimage's!! Well, here's my bitch: Why do you Canadians get to have it so good? You people are more decent, trustworthy, and intelligent than the citizens of my country. We protect you from world dangers, but we're completely messed-up these days. You guys are just sitting up there with your syrup, Molsons and hockey sticks aloof to real violence and chaos. How come you guys get the good life, and I have to live in freakin New Jersey? I visited Nova Scotia in the mid-1990's, and it was just wonderful. I didn't even have any drugs, and I didn't care, which is amazing. I want in on what y'all have. Although, your pizza was severely lacking. Dudes, Pizza Delight sucks. Anyways, I hope that some nice folks will consider adopting me. I'm 44-years-old and I'm totally housebroken. —Paddington Jetty Bear

Ignorance and arrogance

Posted on Tue, Sep 27, 2016 at 4:00 AM

Well, Ottawa has decided to jam it's carbon pricing scheme down our throat. Nova Scotia has already explained to them that because our incomes are low and some of us rely heavily on oil to heat our homes, Nova Scotia has invested heavily in it's own homegrown strategy for the environment. BUT it looks like the Liberal feds aren't listening to their provincial brothers. Ottawa's plan should work for ontario ns wit their abundance of hydro power and gas sipping cars. And, anything will work in Alberta with their higher income oil patch jobs. BUT Justin Trudeau hasn't considered what it will be like for a Nova Scotian to fork out a carbon tax on an already $800 oil tank fill up. —you can talk to them but they are too self centered to listen

Canadian Money Worth?

Posted on Wed, Sep 7, 2016 at 4:00 AM

My late starting mornings aside, my first thing check of the news today revealed yet another depressing story, our money is dropping in value. Great. Another knife into the side of struggling Canadians. My first thought is to run to the bank and pull all my savings, as little or none as that may be at the moment, and hide it in the mattress. But because of todays technology, my bills come direct deposit out of my account. So, like many other Canadians, I am over the financial barrel. I have no choice but to allow my poor few hundred dollar savings be in control of the people who have sickening amounts of money. A 10,000 loss to someone who has trillions doesn't mean shit. But to me? 10,000 would change my life forever from the downward struggle that I've been fighting, with millions of other Canadians, just to get by. Money has been a deciding factor in who controls the system. I've never had money, or powerful friends, so I am destined to dream and drudge. Dream of success, even just to be able to pay my bills doing something I love, art, but drudge to a low, shit paying job designed to keep me right there. Making piss ass wages so some dick with a million in the bank sucks bail-out money from my taxes. Money fucked up the whole world and let too many idiots control the system. We can change that but, they gave us some shiny new devices to distract us in the 90s, meanwhile the powers that control the wealth get away with stealing our future more and more everyday. Goddamned swine. —Maybe not

Ashamed of our government

What is Canada coming to nowadays? Fuck all our new PM cares about is taking selfies, going on vacations, using our tax dollars for his childcare, and getting into physical fights! Not too mention putting our country further into debt. Geez, the only reason he was elected was to keep Harper out. He's a complete moron! Now that Donald Trump, why has everyone got a hate-on for him? He speaks the truth and WILL follow through with all this promises. He'll tackle SERIOUS global issues we are having right now, unlike JT who is worried about seeming politically correct all the time. Who cares about petty shit like bathrooms when we have terrorists threatening to blow shit up! Fuck if Trump gets in I might move to the States. He's the first REAL president I've seen in years! —Get real JT!

Cornwallis lovers

Posted on Thu, May 19, 2016 at 4:00 AM

foot-stepping-on-city.jpg
It's not surprising that the people of Halifax don't want to remove or change the Cornwallis statue, but I felt extremely uncomfortable reading all the comments about why it should stay. I didn't realize everyone was so god-damn racist towards Mi'kmaw people. How can so many people honor a man that paid money for the scalps of children? It's one thing to want to keep the statue where it is, but how can people be so hateful towards us? This is Mi'kmaw territory whether you like it or not and it’s time you all started acknowledging it. —How About YOU Get Over it

Why are our troops not being used to help with this fire? We are not at war and there is no reason we can't send 100,000 troops in and end this in a week! You wanted the job, you got it. Now get your head out of your ass and do something about it. —One Pissed Off Canadian

East Coast Bum

Posted on Tue, May 10, 2016 at 4:00 AM

The fire in For Mac was certainly a tragedy and I'm still in shock as I write this. I've donated 20 dollars to the red cross and I know thats not a lot but it's all I could spare for now. Thought occurred to me while donating the money, though, if the roles were reversed how much would we hear about how the East Coast is full of welfare bums looking for a handout and that AB would never ask for such things...and how many more of these catastrophes before people stop rationalizing them as a long series of one-offs and see them for what they are... —:(

O Canada

Posted on Fri, Feb 19, 2016 at 4:00 AM

No disrespect here fellow Canadians we have enough starving children and homeless people on our streets in our country that's all you hear in the news that's all you see on TV. Holy fuck! Maybe these poor bastards should buy, borrow steal a boat, or build a raft paddle out to sea where the Coast Guard can see them and or wash back ashore. This fucking ridiculous, I am in no way Prejudice, Bias or Racist. The way people open their doors give what they don't have to those who flee their own countries it's disgusting when we walk by or step on our own children going hungry freezing in their on homes and homeless lying on the streets. Let's give more food, clothing and build more shelters for the homeless that we already have. We all look so great and precious in the media running around for the cameras. Take a look around instead of making yourself look good. —Strawdog
