Why the FUCK does it take so damn long to get a PayPal into my account? It's 2019. We have the technology to put a man on the moon but we can't get a bank transfer to happen instantly? For fuck's sake! Banks are so annoying, I should just keep my money under my bed in a shoebox or something.

Lack of aid

Posted By on Mon, Apr 2, 2018 at 3:49 PM

I do think Income Assistance is notorious for causing its recipients undue stress and hardship. I should know. I go through it every day of my life. I am not the only one either. The stress that they put people through is probably enough to fill several therapists' wallets. I am facing being denied some basic services such as a phone. If I have a medical emergency, how am I supposed to be able to call 9-1-1? I have been up all night physically ill from the stress of being denied transportation by Income Assistance. I have that on my hospital record. It is proof of the stress I was caused by being denied certain services by Income Assistance,  a denial of certain human rights. I have a learning disability that prevents me from finding standard traditional work so I write for publications. It is the only 'employment' I can find. I created my own work. Now I have a bibliography and if anyone wants me to write for them, feel free to contact me.

Recipients of Income Assistance are forced to use food banks, probably can't afford dental care, or a phone. They are being denied what are likely basic human rights. This is unacceptable and there should be something done about it but that is not the case. The system keeps them this way rather than helping them get off the system. The system wants to hinder the recipients. They would rather have them struggling. It keeps the caseworkers working, etc. The bus passes discount for those on low income was a small start in the right direction. I hope that program continues. I hear the new program for those on low income to receive free bus passes is continually postponed. I believe that is because they don't want to lose coveted revenue.

The future for recipients of Income Assistance won't brighten until they finally relent and 1. Increase their rental rates and become realistic, 2. Allocate more allowance for their recipients to have enough money to survive on per month, 3. Make transportation more affordable and possible and 4. Stop forcing their recipients to prove why they need a phone. Everyone needs a phone. If there is a medical emergency, and my phone allowance is taken away from me, then I have the right to hold someone criminally negligent and liable.

I hope this insanity can be cured. —Heddy

It's only our tax money

Three and-a-half million spent on makeover of Fort Needham Memorial Park? What the hell is Fort Needham Park? Where the hell is Fort Needham Park? Can I have my tax money back? Shouldn’t that have been spent on affordable housing? —It’s My Money Too

Lost money—who cares?

Posted By on Mon, Oct 30, 2017 at 4:54 PM

Specific money bills lost somewhere in my travels on Spring Garden Road while doing errands the Friday before Halloween. To whomever found it, sure would be nice to somehow get it back but I doubt I will unless you read this and respond with a kind, return to owner heart.  I can tell you more specifics about the money. Do you realize how hard I have to work for the money I make at my job? —Didn't Make My Weekend Or Life

Tips aren't mandatory

Posted By on Mon, Jul 24, 2017 at 4:40 PM

So, I find myself getting into conversations with people about the "necessity" or the "need" to tip every single person that offers a service.  Myself, I tip based on service, not on looks or routine. When I go to a restaurant, I look for two things: 1) the service from the server and 2) the quality of the food. That's it.  If the food sucks or the service is bad, I am not obligated to tip, which usually leaves a sour look on the servers face.  Yes, I know, servers are very hard working and tips do help them out a lot with the bad wages they probably receive, but I work hard too and if you make me feel like I am unwanted in your restaurant, then why should I give you a reward. It's not because I am “cheap,” it’s because I have an old-school expectation that when I go out and spend a good amount of money on food at a restaurant, I kind of expect good service.

Also, it seems like every place you use a debit machine, it asks for a tip.  Most of these places you have to pay before you even receive your items so how am I supposed to tip based on quality if I haven't even tried your food. Maybe some one should tip me for using self-service gas…

I am not bad mouthing the service industry, I am just annoyed with the fact that I am expected to tip for nothing nowadays just because it "socially expected.” —I guess I'm cheap

Monopoly money

Love that our government will spend money on the design and making of our money (new $10 bills and quarters that glow in the dark). Put it in to our wages, tired or working minimum wage while in school! —Working my way to paying more in taxes

Family Court Bewilderment!

Posted By on Tue, Jun 20, 2017 at 2:09 PM

Does it really cost $100,000. and take seven years to get a divorce finalized in the province of Nova Scotia? Is this why there are so many home foreclosures in the province? What has taken family court to do in seven years would take me five minutes to complete add the assets and subtract the debt and divide by two. You have no power to enforce court orders you do nothing to people who do not follow the court orders but line the pockets of the greedy lawyers in this city. You have destroyed my family, distressed my children and left us without a penny to our name. You are criminals, thieves and liars and it is disgusting what you do to people. Close your doors and use the building for something useful like a home less shelter which is where people go when you are done stealing all their hard earned life savings! —Sleeping on your steps tonight!

Where are our tax dollars going?

Posted By on Fri, Jun 16, 2017 at 10:36 AM

Where is all the tax money going? We are taxed on earnings taxed on what we buy. How much interest does our tax dollars make for the country? Why are sick people waiting for tests and doctors to see them?

There is more than enough money to hire doctors to stay in the province and work. Our government just doesn't make the priority to do it. Now the justice system, backed up for years to come innocent people in jail waiting trial. Judges making ridiculous decisions based on cave man standards. Lawyers charging $350 per hour to write a letter I can write myself but again the bureaucratic BS someone else has to pay for. Step up to the plate and clean this mess up and yes it can be done. Someone with some guts needs to make a executive decision without waiting for all the bureaucratic BS to run its course. Backwards comes instantly to mind check out TO how the big cities keep it together, you can learn something from them if you chose to do so. Stop going golfing on our dime and sit in your office and solve the problems that our city is plagued with. We are way to smart to believe anything you tell us anymore actions speak louder than words! —Get with the program Nova Scotia!

Wedding woes

Posted By on Thu, Jun 15, 2017 at 10:12 AM

My fiancé tells me that she wants a 30k dollar wedding just like the women on TV.

Instead, I'm giving her an ultimatum: Either cut the cost down so I can buy a muscle car or she gets the curb. —I ain’t no schmuck

Dead beat town

Posted By on Thu, May 25, 2017 at 3:12 PM

Hellifax must be the capital of Dead Beat Dad provinces in Canada. The courts do nothing to enforce orders for support. I know a lot of hard working ladies out there trying to support their kids. Should be mandatory that all woman in this province make double the minimum wage so they can support their children. —Lots of Losers in this town...are you one of them?

Posted By on Tue, May 16, 2017 at 9:49 AM

Taxes on taxes for gas.
High taxes for water.
Taxes on products that tax has already been paid on ( used cars ).
Higher power rates.
Fucking insane costs for internet/phone/TV.
Fucking cost at the grocery stores now...through the fucking roof.
Fucking Zoolander imposing a carbon tax now.
Fucking ditch tax.......really?
Property tax....sky high.....Fuck!
High rates to renew fucking stickers on my car......fucking gross!
Income tax
Provincial tax
Federal tax........... fuuuuuck!
A fella can barely afford a 6 pack of beer to drown his taxed fucking sorrows at the end of a taxing week.
TAXES AND FEES!

Now you're proposing free education, midwifery, and whatever else? Why not free fucking trips to the moon. Promises of more and more from every party but no way to cover the costs. This province.......fuck man .....this province. Stay the fuck out of my pockets for Christ sake. I'm tapped. —Taxed!

Pay an "adult wage" you cheap fucking idiots!

Posted By on Mon, May 1, 2017 at 9:48 AM

Sure, start out with minimum wage, but fuck sakes, give those employees who stay dedicated for many years an "adult wage." So many long time hard working employees I know make a little more then minimum wage. Eleven bucks an hour is usually great for the average teenager without children, living at their parents’ house, but paying 11 bucks for five-plus years of dedicated work...FUCK YOU!  Also it seems many employers pay minimum wage and over work their staff. Fuck Nova Scotia needs more quality jobs. —Pay us fairly

Predatory fees!

Posted By on Thu, Mar 9, 2017 at 9:17 AM

Despite playing within their guidelines fees are coming at me from all angles- banking especially. Perhaps you are experiencing the same thing?

Isn’t time they get some push back? Or all we going to roll over? When is enough enough? How can I initiate the process of ending predatory fees?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. —Michael

Raw! Raw! Raw! Stadium! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Posted on Fri, Jan 27, 2017 at 9:00 AM

More talk of a stadium and a CFL franchise. That's what this city is missing! Maybe they can dismantle the Convention centre and use old bridge parts to build a stadium on the cheap. And call the team the Halifax Boondoggles. —Taxed out

Not supporting a woman's ass

Posted on Tue, Jan 24, 2017 at 12:00 PM

I'm a 31-year-old single man who went out with this nice girl for almost three months. I was into her until I found out she was nearly 50K in the hole from student loans to pay for her university business degree. She graduated in 2014 and now only makes about 35K and making the minimum monthly payments. To me, a woman with that much debt needs to be avoided like the plague. I have a buddy who has a girlfriend with a bunch of student loan debt and she convinced him to help her pay them off! I'm not doing that; I expect a woman to pay her own way in every aspect in life. This girl I recently ended it with might not have done that, but how is she ever going to afford what I can afford when she's debilitated with these payments for the next 8-10 years? I make nearly 40K and I don't have any student loan debt because after high school, I just continued to work at a restaurant chain and now I'm a general manager! I'm frankly sick of these entitled college/uni chicks who were dumb enough to get into all of this debt (instead of just doing high school and trying to move up in the place they were working at during HS, like I did) and working jobs that don't even pay that much expecting any man withOUT that debt to be a puddle at their feet, just because THEY got a degree! –No debt for me
