Halifax is seriously considering using a new type of firework. One that won't make any loud noises. Are you fucking kidding me? That's the best goddamn part of the fireworks. BOOM. Its sound waves echo off buildings and can be heard for miles. Those are the ones that bring a smile to my face. I guess the noon cannon will be next to be phased out. Fireworks are a couple times a year in the summer and that motherfucker BOOMS every goddamn day even louder than a firework. — I Need That Boom Boom Boom

R

acist and dirty cops, power-hungry cops who use excessive force and arrest people for no reason, need to be stopped. I can't believe that poor woman was punched in the face in front of her children! I was pushed face-first toward the concrete by a cop before with extreme force, I almost had my teeth knocked out, and if I hadn't put my hands there to catch my fall… I too did nothing illegal. HRM needs to screen their officers better and start sensitivity training. Stop hiring these racists, criminals and hot heads to protect us. Go arrest some actual criminals and stop this excessive force toward women who have done nothing wrong! You should be ashamed of yourself. —I’ll Be At The Protest

To the people in Halifax who own property and are overcharging for said property through unfair rental costs: You are disgusting, putrid trash. It is literally impossible to find a place to live here without spending half or more of your income on lining a landlord's pockets. You greedy scum. And to the politicians who are doing absolutely nothing: people are dying here. We are going without food, comforts, we are at our wits' end. You expect us to work for $11.50 an hour and pay a disproportionately higher amount in taxes than the rich here. We are DYING out here.

My beloved non-profit is being driven literally into the ground, by the same sociopathic manager of another NGO referenced in The Coast a few years back. God help us and our service users. When the provincial funders act, it'll be too late. Heart-breaking to watch.

I have been doing a bit of work for a fella on his house that he just bought, and became pretty good friends with him. We shoot the shit a lot and discuss what's going on in our lives. He is separated with one 13-year-old girl with his ex. He told me the other day that his ex called Child Protective Services on him, saying that he physically abused her and a few other things (which I believe he didn't do).

Anyways CPS came over and he talked to them, and at the end of the conversation he asked them if they were going to go investigate his ex, as that is where all the problems are occurring: the girl is living with no structure, staying up as late as she wants, watching or listening to whatever she wants, being home alone constantly. All they said was their job was to investigate him and that was it.
He has been having this problem with the system for years, and because he is the father, not the mother, the system automatically shuns him. The system looks to favour the woman, and not even do a proper investigation on what is better for the child instead of, in their own words, "try to keep families together" even if that is doing more harm then good.

Everyone says that there shouldn't be any discrimination or sexism, but ever so sadly we see it in the public system still favouring women automatically and just disregarding the man as a "deadbeat" even when we just want what is best for our child physically, mentally and emotionally. When does the favouritism stop and a fair trial began? How can CPS just completely ignore the best interest of what they are there to do!!!

Antifa really isn't against fascists, at least no more so than the vast majority of people in western countries whose ancestors fought against them three-quarters of a century ago. Rather they have convinced themselves (and many others) that everyone even remotely similar to the individuals who bullied them or their friends and family members when they were young is a fascist. Why? Because being bullied has driven them insane, and they have an overwhelming need to dehumanize everyone they see as the enemy. It also helps that fascism doesn't exist in this day and age in any significant quantity, and so there are no real fascists to disavow all the people who they have classified as fascists. That said, I would not condone further exasperating the issue by continuing to bully them, nor do I think it is wise to encourage the fulfillment of violent revenge fantasies in individuals suffering from borderline personal disorder, or anyone else's violent revenge fantasies for that matter.

Dear HRM politicians and staff: The Willow Tree intersection at Robie and Quinpool needs a roundabout! Having five streets with stop lights makes for a complete nightmare. Fix this.

Poly-ticks. Sigh. So another election is approaching, and again there will be endless rhetoric about poor voter turnout. There will also be the "if you don't vote…" guilt trips:

If you don't vote you don't get to complain.

If you don't vote you're disrespecting the people who gave their lives for our freedom.

If you don't vote then it's a vote for the Libs/Con/NDP/New&ImprovedRefoooormParty.

Horseshit, I say. These are not reasons to vote. They are thinly veiled threats to distract you from the valid feeling that there is no one worthy of your vote.

If voting is so damn terrific. then why aren't the so-called leaders doing more to earn our vote rather than spewing the same half-truths and nonsense as every other election. It's the members of the political parties who are "disrespecting those who gave their lives" as they don't show enough integrity to warrant buying an apple from them, let alone be our provincial or federal leaders. Therefore undeserving of your vote.

We should expect more from the candidates if they want our precious X on a ballot. Time to step up!

The program is not doing enough for people with physical and mental health disabilities. If a person tries to go get help on their own, like for the proper therapy in helping with PTSD, well, community services considers going to school work, not therapy, so they make you sign up for employment works! If a person is disabled and can't work because of severe physical and mental health issues, why are they told that if they don't sign up for the program, it could effect their funding? That is the line they use on every piece of paper that is sent to clients. This is a form of intimidation. How is it helping anything?

Why is the government reneging on their promises? We the people in poverty are still waiting, since 2006. You can see it every time a story hits the news about how people living on income assistance are in dire straits and going hungry. When those reporters ask questions about what is going on, the answer they get from government is always the same: "Wait until the employment support and income assistance transformation is completed." and "We will raise the rates and things will get better."

That was 13 years ago. How much suffering can a poor person endure? That response is so old, it has dinosaur crap on it. There were supposed to be increases in 2019, what happened there? Here it is six months into 2019 and nothing has been done yet! What the hell is going on? Is the government lying again? Of course it is!

When does the government ever tell the truth about people living in poverty? Instead they breed discrimination, hate and crime. They blame all people in poverty for the actions of a few. The stigma created is made up of people who have more money than you could imagine, but those are the people that never had to beg for food or spare change. Yes, there are the ones that waste their funding on drugs and alcohol, but let's be real here: Not every person living in poverty is an addict or alcoholic. Some people feel like this is their tax money being wasted, but that is not the truth. We pay HST, property tax and other taxes that most of the population of Canada pays. That should be enough to say to the working class, because they are the ones who discriminate the most!

Who in our present government is helping? People in poverty should not vote in any election, because we do not reap the benefits and most of what we do need is non-existent, so why should we vote if we don't matter? I urge the people in poverty not to vote and let's just see what happens. Let's really find out if we can get the help that every human being in Canada is entitled to.

The people of Canada care more about helping other countries, but when it comes to helping their own people, they complain that we are no-good people who just want to sponge off the government. What is wrong with this picture? Help other countries but not your own?! Shame on the government, shame on the filthy rich who hold most of Canada's wealth and shame, shame, shame on the people of this province. I hope no of you ever have to live this way.
