Willow Tree mess

Posted By on Fri, Sep 6, 2019 at 12:57 PM

Dear HRM politicians and staff: The Willow Tree intersection at Robie and Quinpool needs a roundabout! Having five streets with stop lights makes for a complete nightmare. Fix this.

Many-faced blood-sucking parasites

Posted By on Thu, Aug 22, 2019 at 10:11 AM

Poly-ticks. Sigh. So another election is approaching, and again there will be endless rhetoric about poor voter turnout. There will also be the "if you don't vote…" guilt trips:

If you don't vote you don't get to complain.

If you don't vote you're disrespecting the people who gave their lives for our freedom.

If you don't vote then it's a vote for the Libs/Con/NDP/New&ImprovedRefoooormParty.

Horseshit, I say. These are not reasons to vote. They are thinly veiled threats to distract you from the valid feeling that there is no one worthy of your vote.

If voting is so damn terrific. then why aren't the so-called leaders doing more to earn our vote rather than spewing the same half-truths and nonsense as every other election. It's the members of the political parties who are "disrespecting those who gave their lives" as they don't show enough integrity to warrant buying an apple from them, let alone be our provincial or federal leaders. Therefore undeserving of your vote.

We should expect more from the candidates if they want our precious X on a ballot. Time to step up!

Disability Support Program from community services

Posted By on Thu, Jun 20, 2019 at 2:14 PM

The program is not doing enough for people with physical and mental health disabilities. If a person tries to go get help on their own, like for the proper therapy in helping with PTSD, well, community services considers going to school work, not therapy, so they make you sign up for employment works! If a person is disabled and can't work because of severe physical and mental health issues, why are they told that if they don't sign up for the program, it could effect their funding? That is the line they use on every piece of paper that is sent to clients. This is a form of intimidation. How is it helping anything?

Where are the 2% and 5% increases from income assistance?

Posted By on Tue, Jun 18, 2019 at 11:12 AM

Why is the government reneging on their promises? We the people in poverty are still waiting, since 2006. You can see it every time a story hits the news about how people living on income assistance are in dire straits and going hungry. When those reporters ask questions about what is going on, the answer they get from government is always the same: "Wait until the employment support and income assistance transformation is completed." and "We will raise the rates and things will get better."

That was 13 years ago. How much suffering can a poor person endure? That response is so old, it has dinosaur crap on it. There were supposed to be increases in 2019, what happened there? Here it is six months into 2019 and nothing has been done yet! What the hell is going on? Is the government lying again? Of course it is!

When does the government ever tell the truth about people living in poverty? Instead they breed discrimination, hate and crime. They blame all people in poverty for the actions of a few. The stigma created is made up of people who have more money than you could imagine, but those are the people that never had to beg for food or spare change. Yes, there are the ones that waste their funding on drugs and alcohol, but let's be real here: Not every person living in poverty is an addict or alcoholic. Some people feel like this is their tax money being wasted, but that is not the truth. We pay HST, property tax and other taxes that most of the population of Canada pays. That should be enough to say to the working class, because they are the ones who discriminate the most!

Who in our present government is helping? People in poverty should not vote in any election, because we do not reap the benefits and most of what we do need is non-existent, so why should we vote if we don't matter? I urge the people in poverty not to vote and let's just see what happens. Let's really find out if we can get the help that every human being in Canada is entitled to.

The people of Canada care more about helping other countries, but when it comes to helping their own people, they complain that we are no-good people who just want to sponge off the government. What is wrong with this picture? Help other countries but not your own?! Shame on the government, shame on the filthy rich who hold most of Canada's wealth and shame, shame, shame on the people of this province. I hope no of you ever have to live this way.

World class city

Posted By on Tue, Dec 19, 2017 at 4:30 PM

Dear Mayor Savage et al.,

If you truly investigated how all the other 'world class' cities operate, you would quickly notice that they ALL HAVE AFFORDABLE AND EFFICIENT PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. Figure it out.

PS: Tourists love good public transportation too. —World Class Citizen

Let's learn a lesson from Houston

Posted By on Tue, Sep 5, 2017 at 9:00 AM

I read an eye-opening news article that stated the major reason Houston drowned in that storm is that developers there are completely unregulated, and can build anything they like anywhere they want, swathing Houston in square miles of water—impervious concrete and zero green space to soak up water.  We in HRM are heading down the same backward-looking path IMO.  I'm sick of this city being a cyclone-street-corner, glass-tower construction zone—it’s time to push back against aggressive, short-sighted developers bullying our City Council to throw the rules out the window. —Semi-off-grid city dweller

Just Bitching

Posted By on Wed, Aug 2, 2017 at 4:26 PM

I hate to say this but the city's decision makers need to work harder to improve the quality of life for its people. Why is it losing smart individuals to other places? Simply because higher powers are looking for short term let's make rich folks happy type of solution.

Look into the laws, educate business owners small or large, involve thinkers young and old, open a space to listen not just campaigning to keep sucking the blood out of the political career ladder. Support local businesses and allow and support them to expand in order to make more and hire more. this town is filled with smart people, take advantage of that before they are gone to other provs. —WTF

Where did all the good times go?

Posted By on Mon, Jun 26, 2017 at 9:30 AM

Dear Pierre with hair,

My tax free day came one day later this year. The next time there is an election, my vote for you is coming coming one day later than my vote for the opposition. —Polls are closing with this voter.

The election may be over but let’s not forget

Posted By on Mon, Jun 19, 2017 at 10:20 AM

The election may be over but let’s not forget: Having fixed election dates; covering cancer drugs taken at home; having a defined contribution pension plan for MLAs and senior bureaucrats;  making sure that the government is responsive to problems in Cape Breton regarding health care; and, adequate funding for long term care facilities for food. —I remember though you may forget

Selective Liberal Rage

Posted By on Tue, Jun 13, 2017 at 4:19 PM

You only care when something bad happens to you but can care less if it happens to other people. In fact, you'd be more than happy to step on and over other people if the government promises you a little piece of the pie. You call new democrats hypocritical but when liberals do the exact thing or worst, you deny it and call anything you disagree with fake news LOL. You're getting your feelings hurt while people are dying and have been oppressed in this province for years. Yeah it's only a big deal when it happens to you, we know. —Disgusted

Election Month

Posted By on Fri, Jun 2, 2017 at 12:01 PM

Why have an “Election Day” when polls are open for weeks before the day the votes are finally counted? Sounds more like Election Month. Have an actual Election Day with one day of advance polling. —The End

Four-year-olds don't care about your politics

Posted By on Thu, May 18, 2017 at 11:45 AM

Not many understand the digital landscape for advertising. And if the NS Conservative election campaign thinks they are getting great numbers on their YouTube video they are wrong. My very sick four year old has watched it at least 20 times and now my equally as sick seven year old will be making up a lot of your “stats.” Those views will not help your campaign at all. Content is just as important as analytics. Dig a bit deeper and think a little harder. —Thinking about more than numbers

You're not the centre of the universe...

Posted By on Wed, May 17, 2017 at 9:17 AM

You can do your homework and compare the platforms yourself. I genuinely believe that those who decide to take a leap into public office want to serve for the greater good in our province.... But somehow these human beings (reminder: politicians are daughters, mothers, fathers, sons, etc.) get abused by all of you in the process. We are legitimately horrible to each other. For the record, Nova Scotia is Guysborough. It's Sydney Mines. It's Eskasoni to Shelburne, it's Antigonish to Gulliver’s Cove and a million other coves where there are hard working beautiful people who love this province and pay taxes just like every HRM resident. Their issues and their voices rarely make the headlines. They pay the price for all the followers who listen to the negative messages of media. Forget the election for a second: everyone, please go around your neighbourhood today...Maybe walk, maybe drive, maybe take your ATV out if you're out in the country. Maybe the sun is shining, maybe it's overcast. Just look around. What the hell are you complaining about? I don’t have and any money and I'm stressed over my head but I'm not about to blame and send hate mail to a person who puts their neck out for Nova Scotians and takes all of your abuse!!!! So shut up and vote and carry on with your day. —ThinkOfYourFellowMan
