Once upon a time in 2003 I was just starting a job at KFC and two girls ordered something new on the menu and not yet on the register. Nervous, I flubbed up adding it up on the calculator. Behind me, the district manager made snarky remarks and questioned if I even had so much as a junior high math education (I was 21). I finished serving the girls and went to clean the bathrooms so I'd have a private spot to cry. The girls comforted me and told me not to worry about people like her. I thanked them and went on with my day. The next day, they came back into my store with a big bouquet of sunflowers for me and told me to smile. I hope they are still in Halifax and able to read this. I've never forgotten their kindness.
