Travel Mentality at Home

Posted on Mon, May 30, 2011 at 10:59 AM

When I travel solo I am able to find the ability to talk to people without being shy. I meet the most amazing people and have great stories to tell when I come home because of this. I've been making a conscious decision to try to be more open to talking to strangers at home and amazingly enough, people respond in kind. I feel like we have become too suspicious and protective against people we don't know which makes us miss out on so much. We have forgotten how to talk to each other but I assure you when you do the results can be very rewarding.

Saturday night I was at the final show of a Gottingen bar and talked to a crazy amount of people I have never met and only one person gave me the cold shoulder. The rest laughed and carried on with me. These interactions are so rewarding and I thank each and every one of you for being open. So, I guess what I am trying to say is if you have compliments to give or observations to share with strangers, do it. If someone approaches you with the same be open to accepting it without suspicion that they have a hidden agenda. It will make you realize the world is a kinder place then maybe you thought. —Keeping an Open Mind
