Spring Snow

Posted By on Thu, Mar 23, 2017 at 12:33 PM

Snow days in spring make me think of all the kids who are getting days off of school and loving every minute of it, I have a few kids in my life who love to be out in the snow and I remember loving those days myself, Just remember those fun days as a kid when your angry over the busses not running, shops closed. Why not go build a snowman or jump in the snow and relive your childhood moments? —Positive about the white stuff

Public sled

Posted By on Fri, Feb 17, 2017 at 5:00 PM

Thank you to the person who has left a sled for public use in the Ravenscraig field! I took my dog for a walk there last night and spent the next hour laughing as I flew down the hill with my pup chasing after me! SO MUCH FUN. We need more people like you. Thanks for trusting it would be there in the morning. —Jaxy-Baby and his BFF

To unknown HRM snowplow guy

number-one.jpg
Back in early February, as you swung round the corner onto my street to come face to face with me as I tossed the last shovelful of snow out of my driveway, I confess I looked daggers at you, and you stopped dead in your tracks. Then you proceeded to plow (it's your job after all) and maneuvered your best to push 80 percent of that dirty snow and ice chunks onto the grass verge instead of my driveway as you passed, but I still glared daggers at you—SORRY.  You shrugged apologetically, and had to move on. Yesterday evening (March 5) I heard prolonged snowplow noise, went out and was amazed to see yes, the plow had been by—again—but my driveway was almost empty. I noticed the swirled, fat tire tracks in the foot of the driveway and in the street: again some snowplow guy doing his pirouetting best to keep my driveway snow-free as he passed doing his job. Was it YOU again?? Just wanted to thank you for this kindness 'cos you certainly don't owe me anything. —Appreciative South End Three-Story Walk-Up Dweller (With a Sore Back)

To the kind snow plow driver

Posted on Thu, Feb 4, 2016 at 4:00 AM

I didn't have a lot left to shovel, maybe another 10 minutes and I would be able call it a day. What you couldn't see was the tough week I had had. Or that I had spent several hours shoveling the night before, not just for myself, but my wonderful next door neighbours who never hesitate to help shovel me out every time it snows and who go above and beyond when there is something I need. (They are away this week, and although they would never expect it of me, it is the least I can do for them.) I slept terribly the night before, and was sore from last night's shoveling of five times more driveway than I am used to. Thank you for your kind act—it totally brightened up my day! —Thankful and Smiling

I love you, chilly, dirty Spring Garden road run-off water

Posted on Thu, Apr 16, 2015 at 4:00 AM

I am hypnotised by the sight of cold, filthy, sparkling snowbank meltwater running across the SG sidewalk, roaring over the edge of the curb like a tiny waterfall, and tearing along the street like an end-of-winter freshet to gurgle down a rusty storm sewer. Sweet sight! —Do I Mind Dirty, Salty Puddle Splashes On My Jeans? Nahhh

A big thank you goes to the friendly ginger bearded man who helped this clumsy girl up after I wiped out on the very icy commons. —v

Snart

Posted on Thu, Apr 2, 2015 at 3:00 PM

AKA snow art...a thank you to the artist who built the teeny tiny snowman on the side of a snow pile at the bus stop of Hammond's Plains and Bedford Highway. I smiled all day! Took pics, sent it to friends, made them smile. Then made it the background on my phone! Adorable!!! —The Cinster

Fuck winter

Posted on Thu, Apr 2, 2015 at 4:00 AM

To the two ladies making out on the snowbanks along Windsor Street one sunny afternoon last week: You are both adorable. Your giggling, unabashed affection was a greatly appreciated ray of sunshine in what’s been a bleak, frustrating winter for everyone. We should all be lucky to have such joy. —Keep Your Butts Warm

TaiChi snow clearing, please!

Posted on Sun, Mar 29, 2015 at 1:16 PM

Fuck those incompetent snow removal subcontractors! The city should hire whoever clears the snow around the Taichi centre on North Park St. to do the whole peninsula! The whole parking lot, sidewalks around the building and even the little stairs behind the centre down to Bauer St. are immaculately cleared and salted seemingly momentarily after any storm ends. Keep on channeling that qi in the direction of those snowbanks, folks! We love it! —Lover of bare pavement

Sleeveless Spring Graden Shoveler

You where taking the initiative upon yourself to clear the soft slush off the side walks before the inevitable uneven freeze. While the task was impossible to complete you still made your mark. Thank you on behalf of all who share these common places. You are a gem. —long time native

I know everyone is going to hate me for this but I love the snow! Do you think we could make a Canadian winter zen garden with (gasp) snow? This morning I listened to music while shoveling. What was the very first song? Lo and behold! “Move Bitch” by Ludacris. Thank you, universe. —Happy Little Shoveler
