Waterside vote today | News | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

As I discussed before, it was a brilliant procdure move on the part of the Armour Group to get the vote on the controversial Waterside development postponed until after the election.

It was unclear at the time exactly when the vote would happen, but by holding it today developer Ben McCrea and city staff don't have to worry about the legal issues involved with holding the public hearing before one council and the vote before another--- the new council doesn't sit until November 4. The delay, however, allows councillors to vote in favour of the project without having to face the wrath of voters at the ballot box.

Moreover, it's anyone's guess if Patrick Murphy, who appeared to oppose the project and lost his seat in the election, will show up to cast a lame duck vote against Waterside.

And council might delay the vote until this evening, but I'm guessing they're going to vote sometime this afternoon, when the TV cameras aren't on.

The meeting starts after the in camera council session at 1:30pm. I'll blog the results as soon as they vote.
