Almost witnessed a death on Barrington the other day, not by a rogue lightning strike or a horde of vicious vermin that run rampant downtown, but by careless acceleration of your imported automobile. If that young women wasn't paying attention while stepping out onto the crosswalk, or didn't hear you push that engine to speeds of 70-80km/h through what we know to be one of, if not the busiest street in Halifax, she would've most definitely been killed or seriously injured.
Luckily for you the authorities had their back turned to your little stunt like many others, and furthermore to an issue that needs to be addressed. After witnessing what happens to a community after losing a youth to reckless driving early last summer, I know that more has to be done by the HRP and the RCMP than just setting up a couple more check points every month, because even after a horrific accident occurs due to this nonsense, people just don't learn. And I know it's as much the driver's responsibility to drive safe as it is the job of the police to ensure tragedies like this don't happen again, but if nothing is done then incidents like this will be bound to repeat themselves until something changes. —Stricter laws

I feel intense fear and sadness for the hatred and discrimination other people face. Seeing the bans in the US, the decriminalization of family violence in Russia. The future seems dismal and dark. Here I am, all shiny and white. I want to be your ally. I want you to know I don't want you to face a moment of hatred. I stand for you, with you, beside you. I do not give a shit about your religion, what you look like. I care if you are a good person. Kind, loving and that you make our country better. I care that you are inclusive. That you respect those around you. That you share your story. I am sorry I don't fully understand. I am sorry because I am white I just don't get it. But please know I try and please know from the bottom of my heart, I want equality. —Shiny

I can't believe the gall of this government. First they stab the teachers in the back by publicly raising the issue of the professional development trips taken abroad during collective bargaining, then they try to portray themselves as caring deeply about the education system while at the same time undermining those people who work in it day in and day out.
Quite frankly the only skill these people bring to the game is the appalling use of dirty tricks to serve their own purpose and to hell with the consequences.
Shame on them.

To the police officer who almost ran me over in a CROSSWALK the other day, what the hell?! I was in the middle of the crosswalk, with the flashers flashing and you just blew through it. Maybe you should follow the rules you're supposed to enforce. —Lucky to be alive

Let's talk? It sounds good but nobody will listen. You let your employees bully new staff and turn a blind eye and what is that excuse for a manager that stomps around the office with her head down and fake hair. Look after your office babies! overpriced wine drinkin snobs. –You don't want to hear it!

More talk of a stadium and a CFL franchise. That's what this city is missing! Maybe they can dismantle the Convention centre and use old bridge parts to build a stadium on the cheap. And call the team the Halifax Boondoggles. —Taxed out

To all the teachers: don't go along with the latest contract offer. You're being sold down the river by your own executive and if you go along with it then you'll just end up taking every other public sector worker with you. This government is a sack of poison laying waste to everything it touches. Have no further dealings with them except through arbitration. —I hate the Liberal government

I'd like to preface this by saying that I'm not a teacher nor do I work in the education system. I'm writing this because I've read far too many news articles, and status updates, and comments about the work-to-rule situation and am bored to death of the parents that blame their child's bad grades or inability to get extra help so that they excel in their studies on teachers.
Why are teachers expected to give extra help to classes of 30+ students? Shouldn't that be reserved for students with serious academic struggles (ie: at risk of failure)? Since when did parents get to wash their hands of their child's education? Parents are ultimately responsible for their child's development and that includes their education. Teachers are there to help, not take on the entirety of this burden for them. Education extends beyond the classroom and it requires parental involvement. It's time to step up and do your part. —Sick of Lazy Parents

I like to go at the Emera Oval to skate. I'm a good and fast skater—I think, anyway. How many times do I have to go around the slow skaters on the inside line who are reserved for fast skater and not for beginners and red gliders? How many times have I seen safety people skate by and don't mention anything to them? A lot of time they just chatted along and don't bother. Accidents will happen soon. Kids with red gliders fall in front of you. Parents should be more responsible and keep their kids on the outside lane if they are slow or with gliders. Teenagers skate slowly and flirt. Stay away from the fast lane too. Please and thank you! —BG

Two things—when I'm on my neighbourhood walk, I don't want to have to deal with your fucking pooch jumping on me and you, dumbass owner, giggling how dog must love me. Well, the feeling is far from mutual. And, in my area, the dog shit is EVERYWHERE, every goddamn 30 feet I walk. Don't you fucking tell me what a big honking dog lover you are but won't pick up your mutt's crap. —Cat lover forever
