Pegah & Shayan

Back on June 17, 2011, Pegah Atbin was reading an article about a new restaurant that was being opened downtown by an old acquaintance. One of the co-owners’ names jumped out at her so she kept on reading. “As soon as I saw his name I knew it was a Persian name, being Persian myself, and I didn’t even bother reading the rest of the article,” recalls Pegah. Instead she immediately searched for Shayan Safaei on Facebook (admit it, you would too) and was rewarded with a wide-open public profile. “I was so curious and excited at the same time and didn’t waste a second. So yes, I creeped him. As I was looking through his pictures my friend messaged me to ask what I was up to that night. I responded with, ‘Nothing at all, let’s go to this restaurant, I need to meet this guy!’” After wrangling an introduction from their mutual friend, Pegah knew she wanted more. “That week I literally went to the restaurant five different times with different people.” After getting her fill of food, Pegah decided it was time to bite the bullet and make the first move. She asked him out and two weeks later they were eating together---the rest is a whirlwind of tasty history. All thanks to Facebook.
