Remember the MVP (most valuable place) of last summer, Stillwell Beergarden? The downtown beer bar dreamed up the idea to open a second, outdoor location to make up for the fact that it couldn’t have a patio on Barrington Street, submitting an unsolicited proposal to the Waterfront Development Corporation to do so on the harbourfront. The WDC, of course, was into giving it a whirl.

Serving up local brews and classic beer garden fare like sausages and pretzels from a shipping container at the Summit Amphitheatre turned out to be a wildly successful pilot project (despite complaints/sour grapes that the project didn't go through the tender process) and this fall the WDC put out a public request for proposals to do it all again.

Finally, this week the winner of the highly sought-after tender for the outdoor food and drink space was announced; downtown gathering place, the Stubborn Goat Gastropub (1579 Grafton Street) will be slinging local beer, wine and meals (brunch, even)—and hosting live entertainment—to boardwalk walkers May through October, not just this summer but summers 2017 and 2018 as well.

We expect Stillwell's next sunshine-seeking plan is already brewing.

Editors note: An earlier version of this story's headline stated "Stubborn Goat wins waterfront beer garden tender" but has since been changed for clarity. The tender was for the beer garden site, not a beer garden -AS.

Grill you know it's true. It's almost time to get fired up about Halifax Burger Week. You might as well start laying out the stretchy pants now because we're pre-heating the grills for the fourth annual eating extravaganza.

This year, 79 (!!!) restaurants will participate the the city-wide celebration of patties and buns, making it the most massive Halifax Burger Week yet. While the actual eating doesn't actually get going until March 18, the burger mania is in full swing.

Need to ketchup? Here are a couple of reasons to flip.

Tickets for the Burger Bus are already selling like hotcakes—er, beef patties. The eating mobile will be picking up hungry passengers March 4-6 and 11-13 and taking them on a wild ride to Flavour Town (population, these participating restaurants). Don't sleep on getting your ticket to ride.

The burger overlords are currently seeking not one but two Burger Ambassadors. What's a Burger Ambassador? Not only a highly important part of the royal burger family, but an individual who gets to EAT FREE BURGERS ALL WEEK. The application process for the sought-after role is simple: post a burger selfie, AKA of a photo of yourself shoving a burger into your face, with #HfxBurgerFace16. Proof of pig-out, that's it.

While you await all the juicy details of the offerings of the participating Burger Week restos, feast your eyes on the Facebook event here, the official website here and be mesmerized but the following.
