Longtime Halifax tattoo and piercing studio Permanent Ink also moved last month, to a new home at 6243 Almon. For the last few years, the shop has made its home at the corner of Bilby and Isleville; before that, owner Jason Suter could be found practicing his craft on Spring Garden. (The shop's been around since 1990.) With the move, Suter shrank the business, to make it more manageable (he's currently the only artist working there, but is getting more customers than ever). He also changed its decor and atmosphere. "The other location had very loud and bright colours—it was very, very busy and slightly overwhelming...here, it's much more played-down and more refined," says Suter. He made the switch for a simple reason: "I'm growing up. I've been doing tattoos for 21 years. Things change over that amount of time." The shop offers free coffee to customers, and reasonable prices. "We charge by the piece, not by the hour," points out Suter. Ready to get tatted-out?
