For the past two weeks you may have noticed a new restaurant in the Spring Garden firmament, next to The Running Room. It’s a new Greek place called Estia (5518 Spring Garden, 429-8331) in the former Deco space, with an interior decor in dark shades of blue with lighter accents reminiscent of that belated eatery.
Appetizers at Estia include the expected spanakopita, tzatziki and hummus, but look out for some surprises, such as the octopus and Greek nachos. And the prices are right: a Greek Platter (moussaka or pastitsio, stuffed pepper or tomato and chicken, pork, or scallop souvlaki) goes for $21, as does the rack of lamb. The pasta dishes are priced at $15, except for the $13 vegetarian Mediterranean pasta.
With soups, salads, pitas, wraps, sandwiches, paninis and even burgers on the menu, all reasonably priced, there’s plenty here for those who like Greek food and even for those who don’t have a taste for quality Greek fare. (And who are those people, anyway?)
