“I’m a cut, slice and dice person,” says
Sylvia Noble. Nope, she’s not a serial killer, she’s a local form-fitter who’s worked in Hollywood, and she owns a clothing store at the corner of Spring Garden and Brunswick called
Chapel Hill (5407 Spring Garden, 422-7150). Though the boutique is full of dresses and other clothes, even plush toys, Noble reiterates that she considers herself more of a tailor, offering a specialized service. “We form fit,” she says, before rattling off a list of Hollywood folks she’s worked with, including
Ron Howard and his wife
Cheryl, Maria Shriver, Alanis Morissette, Barbra Streisand and
Bruce Springsteen’s E-Street backing-vocalist and solo-songwriting spouse
Patti Scialfa. “
Matt Damon was in the store a few weeks ago,” she says, reporting that he was here on vacation and his wife wanted to get a dress fitted. (Whoa, how did The Coast’s dedicated team of celebrity stalkers miss him?) Noble stresses that her store is run in an old-fashioned way, with service of key importance. Right now there’s a 50 percent off sale to close out the summer season and “there’s no charge for alterations.”
