Spoke style: Chic cycling photo shoot and accessories

Thanks to local retailers, cycling doesn't haven't to mean sweaty spandex.

Earlier this week Holland and Belgium announced their joint bid to host the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup. And they did so by sending six well-dressed men in fine tailored suits to make the announcement. Before you dismiss this as oh-so European, read our Riding Pretty story: chic cycling has hit Halifax. On Sunday, from 2-5pm, Halifax Cycle Gallery (6299 Quinpool Road, 407-4222) is hosting a photo shoot for fashionable two-wheelers (they’re also looking for photographers) on the North Common. Think Gwyneth Paltrow in The Talented Mr. Ripley or Daniel Day Lewis in any movie; anything goes as long as it’s your own unique style. But if you need a little help, Biscuit General Store will provide accessories, and the Cycle Gallery is also lending out their gorgeous bikes for the shoot, if your old roadster doesn’t quite match your crinoline or tweed hat. The results will be posted on their blog and best photos will be displayed in the gallery.

If you love your wheels so much you want them in your living room, Love Me, Boutique (1539 Birmingham Street, 444-3668) has cute bicycle screenprinted pillows from Jenna Rose and Halifax’s Kat Miller, who also designed tank tops, dresses and pins with the motif.
