Jill Niedermayer has always been into home style. After channeling her longtime interests into Dooryard Antiques—a seasonal vintage, collectibles and decor shop she ran from her cottage in Crescent Beach—for the last few years, she’s decided to make the leap and open a bricks and mortar shop in Halifax. “I’ve wanted to do this for 15 years,” she says between putting down coats of paint at her soon-to-be shop at 6448 Quinpool Road (the former House of Dogs). “I’ve always liked home decorating and design and gardening, it’s a passion of mine that’s been consistent through my life. It just makes me happy.”
Happy Nest will carry a wide range of antiques for your homestead “granny chic, shabby chic, nautical, up-cycled furniture, vintage,” rattles off Niedermayer, adding that she hopes to bring made in the Maritimes accessories into the shop, too. Eventually, she’d like to see her store evolve to become a co-op model, but for now she’ll be bringing in her inventory from Dooryard, as well as collected pieces from auctions and flea markets and consignment items. Happy Nest aims to open in early June.
