Iranian Business Trade Show celebrates Iranian New Year

Lots of food and cultural treats for everyone

The Oscar-winning drama A Separation isn't the only quality example of Iranian culture to be featured in Halifax this weekend. Taking place at the World Trade and Convention Centre, Sunday March 11 from 12-5pm, is the Iranian Business Trade Show. It's a free event, offering a selection of delicious Persian food, along with crafts and carpets. Vendors will be selling jewellery, paintings and CDs, with live music and dance through the afternoon. There'll also be a kids corner with free face painting and crafty goodness.

Atlantic Author Day happens this weekend

Buy a book! They're good for you!

If you haven't figured out what book will absorb your interest this summer, we have a suggestion for you: Check out Atlantic Author Day, organized by Atlantic Books Today and the Atlantic Publishers Marketing Association. It happens Saturday June 18 in a variety of bookstores from 10am to 4pm, with authors reading from their books. Halifax bookstores in the event include Carrefour Atlantique Emporium (Historic Properties, 1869 Upper Water Street, 423-2940) Woozles (1533 Birmingham Street, 423-7626) and Just Browsing Crafts and Collectibles (35 Government Wharf Road, Eastern Passage, 405-0505).

Halifax Crafters taking applications

It’s true: If you are a crafter, artisan or otherwise make interesting, utilitarian or beautiful items with your hands, you can get an application for The Halifax Crafters Spring Show by emailing halifaxcrafters@gmail.com. The applications are due Friday March 4 and the show itself takes place April 30 and May 1. The location of the show will be the Olympic Community Centre at 2304 Hunter Street at Cunard.

InFullBloom this Weekend

The Imagine Bloomfield Society is hosting an outdoor spring fair on Sunday, May 16 from 12 noon to 4pm. It’ll take place at the Bloomfield Centre (2786 Agricola Street at Almon). Expect fun family activities, representation from businesses that focus on ecological and green gardening practises, native plant and heirloom seed sales, arts and crafts, plenty of food from healthy/organic/gourmet vendors and north end non-profit groups will have a presence. Imagine Bloomfield is also kicking off the second year of the Bloomfield Community Gardens, comprised of six growing plots at Almon and Agricola. A work party on the plots also happens on Sunday from 1-4pm. A Potato Tower Building Workshop will be offered (for free) at 2pm. If it rains, look for the event in the Multipurpose Room at the Centre.
