Gamblers, art collectors and bargain hunters take note of this fundraiser: Eastern Canada's answer to the Banff Centre, The Ross Creek Centre for the Arts, is bringing a giant secret to Argyle Fine Art (1869 Upper Water). More than 300 postcard-sized pieces of original art will be auctioned off at $50 each, but you won't know who created it until after you put down the cash (the artists' names are hidden on the back).

There's a reception at the gallery on Friday night, from 6 to 8pm, and the sale starts on Saturday at 10am. Not only are there works from an amazing roster of Atlantic Canadian visual artists, but a few surprise submissions as well, such as former ballet dancer Karen Kain, authors Ami McKay and Margaret Atwood (no word as to whether she used her fancy long-distance pen to sign it). Be sure to check out the artist bios and images of all the works at www.artscentre.ca.

Send arts news, happy and sad, to suec@thecoast.ca.
