Don't let that TV writers' strike make you glum, chum—leave the couch behind. On Friday, December 21 at Ginger's (1662 Barrington), comedy night Blimpin' Ain't Easy will tickle your funny bone in that special way you like. Hosted by the runner-up of the Just for Laughs Homegrown Comic Competition, Nick Beaton, and featuring returning Haligonians Nathan MacIntosh and Mike MacQueen, plus Liverpudlian Bryant Thomson and headliner MTV Canada funny dude (and Dave Chappelle opener) Gilson Lubin, the show should prove a funny respite from cranky mall check-out lines.
Lubin is becoming one of the country's biggest comedy names. Calling from Toronto, MacQueen says, "We met Gilson at Ginger's. He was in town for the Halifax comedy festival a few years back. We got to talking and hitting it off and when we moved down here , he's always looking out for us because he's established. If there's an opening on one of his shows, he'll give it to one of us. He's just doing this show for fun because there's no way we could afford him."
Tickets are $15 at the door and there are two shows, 7:30pm and a raunchier 10pm slot with The Bring Back Swayzes, who, I've been told, do a smashing Natalie Imbruglia cover.
