The Artist Life are free as birds

Someone should tell The Artist Life that nothing comes for free. Featuring ex-members of Jersey, Jude the Obscure, The Fullblast and At The Mercy of Inspiration, The Artist Life (Chuck Leach, Ian Blackwood, Dean Richards and Jake Parsonson) independently released their debut EP "Living" as a free download on their website in the summer of 2007, and it was a good career move, apparently. “We decided to release the record online as a free download when the band was still very much in its infancy and we wanted to build a fanbase,” says Richards. “We thought that putting the record up for everyone in the world to access was the most efficient way to do that. The response has been fantastic. We’ve now reached 10,000 copies of the record that have been downloaded and it’s given kids a chance to get into the songs before we go and play their city.” And what are the kids getting from the album? “I find it important to take a look at the world that surrounds you and comment on what confuses you or what you don’t agree with. Sometimes it makes for a better understanding, inspires you or someone else to make a change or at the very least gives you a chance to talk about it with other people,” says Richards. “Our fans get really excited about our lyrics because they reflect common feelings or behaviours or situations that they understand or have experienced. I think it’s really cool to talk about that stuff with them.” You can weigh in on it Saturday, June 7 at the Pavilion.
