One Life to Bragg about

comment

One Life Surf is kicking summer square in the stones with their summer kick-off party this Saturday at the Marquee Club. They promise fun times with the Tom Fun Orchestra, Mark Bragg and the Butchers, Zumbini Circus, an ocean inspired fashion show featuring Rebekah Higgs and Skank Williams, prizes, paparazzi, art and surf films (tickets at ticketpro.ca). As a surf-centred event, it only makes sense that they are bringing in Mark Bragg for the evening from his own tropical island of Newfoundland. “I'm importing the band from various parts of the country,” says Bragg. “Jay Smith on guitar from Cape Breton, Brad Kilpatrick from Toronto on drums, and Halifax's Brent Randall and Daniel Girard on bass and keys. That's my super-group for this particular show.” Bragg continues to bring the Hollywood glamour with his last project. “I just finished doing the music for a film out of Newfoundland, so the next thing is putting together a soundtrack album for the same,” says Bragg. “The movie was called "Down To The Dirt" and it's based on a novel by Joel Hynes, and it was the first Newfoundland full-length film to screen at the Cannes film festival, which was pretty exciting. I'm hoping to have the album ready to launch with a show during the Toronto Film Festival.”
