Mike Cowie double CD release

Mike Cowie, who has performed at Niche Lounge three nights a week for the past three years is releasing his fourth and fifth CDs on January 20th at (where else?) Niche Lounge (7pm). In The Moment – Music from Niche is a double CD featuring music from both of Cowie's bands, 010 and Waterbabies, made up of Cowie (trumpet/vocals), Larry Bjornson (upright bass), Gerry Carruthers (piano), Tim Cohoon (drums) and Chris Iannetti (guitar). The first CD is jazz electronica and spoken word music written by Cowie and performed by 010, and the second CD features the Waterbabies playing arrangements of songs by Annie Lennox, Billie Holliday, Cyndi Lauper, George Gershwin, Miles Davis and Billy Strayhorn. After the release at Niche, the group moves to the Pacifico for a concert with both groups and some special surprise guests. Says Cowie, "being a jazz musician, always playing in the moment, improvising to make the music sound fresh, means whatever I play gets across to an audience with tremendous directness and feeling. Then I just try and make it sound as good as I can"
