After two years on the Khyber building's lofty third floor, Carbon Arc Cinema is looking to make a move. Their Saturday, July 14 event takes place at the Museum of Natural History (1747 Summer Street), a wheelchair accessible venue. There will be a reception at 6pm to say thanks to the loyal cinema buffs who have supported Carbon Arc through their first years, featuring live jazz with saxophonist David Aaron, in town for the Halifax Jazz Festival, and locals Panos Giannoulis and Benn Ross. At 7pm, Carbon Arc presents a night of Canadian short films chosen by the Toronto International Film Festival, featuring local filmmakers’ Nelson MacDonald and Ashley McKenzie’s award winning Rhonda’s Party.
September's Carbon Arc series will be held in the Museum's auditorium, says Carbon Arc organizer Siloen Daley. "Both organizations hope that it will be a good fit, and we will move forward from there."
"We always wanted the cinema to be in an accessible space, and the HRM are moving slowly with making the Khyber building accessible. I am very excited about the future for the Carbon Arc Cinema in the Museum of Natural History," says Daley.
Daley says the anniversary party "marks the beginning of more ambitious programming due to start in September 2012." After last spring's program, (featuring fun guest hosts, Euro thriller Hanna, punk documentary The Other F Word, that other Titanic film A Night to Remember, a quote filled evening with 60 Heritage Minutes, and perennial favourites like Clueless, Ghostbusters, The Princess Bride, Beetlejuice and Shaun of the Dead) film fans can't help but be excited.
