Matt Steele and The Corvette Sunset 's new Costello-inspired kiss-off

Quartet shares new single "Handshake Deal" from upcoming LP

Halifax rock outfit Matt Steele and The Corvette Sunset will release its debut LP Half Girl Half Ghost on June 7, and today has offered up the lead single, "Handshake Deal," for your streaming enjoyment.

"I was dating somebody who was in a lot of trouble and also a lot of trouble," says Steele of the jaunty stomper. "You realize at some point they don’t really mean what they say, they’re just trying to take advantage of you. I started getting into Elvis Costello at that time, he’s great for break-ups."

"Handshake Deal" is a high-energy rock song, but it didn't start out that way. "When I first wrote this song I was still living on PEI, so it was a little more PEI-sounding, I was feeling like it was gonna sound like 'On the Hood' by Matt Mays, more acoustic," says Steele, who made the new record with Thomas Stacjer at New Scotland Yard. "When we went to record it I said it had to have those Bruce Thomas basslines going on, that’s gonna make it really bouncy and happy instead of whiny or whatever."
