What a relief when you came back, after two long weeks. You've created a safe space for myself and so many others, and I want you to know: I see you. I see the love that you all foster here, and am so grateful that I get to be apart of it. Being in a public space and feeling completely at ease wasn't apart of my normal before I came here. Can't wait to see you tomorrow.

What's the best part about doing your groceries late at night at the North Street grocery store (besides generally avoiding most other humans)? THE SELF-CHECKOUT MASTER. Everyone rants about the self-checkout machines eliminating jobs, but these machines have clearly allowed the guy that often works the night shift overseeing the machines to RISE TO THE PEAK OF HIS ART. Having trouble scanning something? Before you even look up and around, he's at your side MANUALLY ENTERING THE CODE FROM MEMORY. Are you trying to scan one of the 5 items in all of the store that doesn't have a bar code? Don't worry, he's already rung it through for you—once again, with the code memorized. Coupon not working? Discount not being applied? Can't find the code for an obscure type of produce? Lights flashing and the machine beeping? He materializes out of thin air, artfully scans his pass and with a flurry of activity on the keypad, takes care of it and then disappears with a wink back to his podium. WE SALUTE YOU, OH SELF-CHECKOUT MASTER.

Wanted to send a warm-and-fuzzy this week to my local skateboard shop. I was inclined to write this before, but my latest call-in decided it.
Thanks for bringing back the love, good tips and buzz to the shop. And to think I was about to boycott you!

Sending out future love to the Halifax cafe that stays open past 10pm for all us night owls. Because we need a habitat, too.

I just wanted to say how impressed I was with the wait staff at this new café on Lake Banook. The customer ahead of me was obviously living with a significant mental health issue and the barista and cashier were super patient and respectful of this customer. They made sure he was well taken care of and got the food and drink he was looking for. The other customers in line behind him were also considerate of his needs, and were happy to wait the extra time that it took to serve him.
It was a pleasant surprise in a hectic world! Thanks!

This one goes out to the dearest woman who greets you with warmth like the sweetest aunt you've never had. She'll check your fragile ego with her unapologetically dry and witty humour. She's fierce and friendly—what a duo. And have you tried her food? Soul nourishing. Full of flavour. Dynamic. Straight from her grandmother's kitchen. And she'll give you a friggin' huge sample with a smile and a raised eyebrow. Recipes passed down through generations of matriarchs. And this shit is reasonably priced! She's got me scheduling my weekend around this market exchange—and putting kimchi on my morning PB on toast. Thank you, sweet lady.

Many thanks to all the customers who set their cell phones aside when we wait on you. Special love for those who also make eye contact.

To the young brown haired, glasses wearing typical "dorky" looking cashier, you are great at your job. You've always been very pleasant to deal with, you are upbeat and friendly. It might only be a “grocery store” job, but you’re good at it. Maybe one day you'll work in personal relations, or move up to management. Kudos to you for making my stressful weekly shopping much less stressful. —Weekly Regular

To the cashier with perfect teeth in a popular north end café: I always regret looking like I just rolled out of bed when you’re working. If I needed to showcase how excellent customer service is done, you’d be the first person to come to mind. I’d never tell you personally because I know you are only being polite, but you’re so handsome that I can’t stop myself from behaving nervously every time you smile at me. If this finds you, I hope it brightens your day! —Messy Student
